traveling to Thailand.

- Before
traveling, purchase a reference guidebook to
take on your trip.
- While in
Thailand, be mindful of the sun. It can get
to be extremely hot depending on the season.
Use sun block and wear a hat or use an
umbrella to protect yourself. Keep hydrated
by drinking plenty of water.
|
- Beware
of water and ice. Drink only
reputable bottled water and avoid
ice if you don't know its source.
Use caution when eating from street
vendors. Usually, places packed with
tourists/locals will be fine
however; it might be wise to
question empty restaurants.
- When
shopping, beware of pick pockets especially
in tight crowds. Do not keep all of your
money in one location.

- Wear
comfortable loose clothing and shoes.
Appearance is important in Thailand. Please
dress neatly and respectably. Nothing too
revealing for the ladies.
- "Touts"
can be annoying. Some are remarkably smooth,
often posing as doctors or off-duty
policemen. Politely refuse anyone offering
to direct you to shopping or to sell you
anything, (especially jewelry/gemstones) or
offering to take you somewhere for a huge
discount. Purchase gemstones and jewelry
from reputable shops only. There are no
secret outlets where the locals shop, no
official bargain or no tax days, and if
someone tells you the shop you seek is
closed for a holiday check it out yourself.
- Thailand is
a "non-confrontational" society.
Keep your voice down and smile. If you
really feel you have been wronged, threaten
to, or actually, call the tourist police.
